The Olympics are perhaps the greatest sporting event in the world of sports, being held every fourth year in which thousands of athletes from different corners of the world participate. The 2012 Summer Olympics is scheduled to be held in London from the 27th of July to the 12th of August 2012. Some venues are existing which are fully modified for the Games, some are built recently for the Games. This year, 26 types of sports are to be exhibited at 34 venues, apart from the 2012 Summer Paralympic Games which are to be held between 29th of August till the 9th of September 2012. All the venues for the Olympics have been divided into three zones namely the River zone, the Central Zone and the Olympic Zone.

Wembley Stadium: The Wembley is a football stadium situated Wembley Park which lies to the north east of London. It was inaugurated in 2007 on the site of the existing 1923 structure. With a capacity for over 90000 spectators it is the second largest stadium in Europe. The stadium is situated around six miles from the city centre. Mainly used in football purposes, this stadium also holds some major concerts. Diana’s death memorial concert was held here. Metallica also performed here. This venue has been decided to be used in 2012 Olympics.

Construction: this venue has been designed by the architects (Foster + Partners) and Populous (formerly HOK Sport) along with engineers Mott MacDonald. It has been built by Australian company Brookfield Multiplex.

The all-seated stadium is based around a bowl design with a capacity of 90,000 with a sliding roof to protect against weather hazards. Each seat has an unrestricted view of the pitch and plenty of leg room. The archway is the world’s longest unsupported roof structure, proving it to be an architectural wonder. The stadium has the largest number of toilets (about 2,618). Each of the two giant screens in the new stadium is the size of 600 domestic television sets.

Cost: It is one of the most expensive stadiums ever built at a cost of £798 million and is funded by Sport England, the Football Association, WNSL (Wembley National Stadium Limited), the London Development Agency and the Department for Culture Media and Sports.

After the Olympics: the authority of Olympic Games is seeking for an opportunity to make this stadium a permanent site for the Games. For now, it is reported that the football games that is played here normally will again begin.

London will be the host for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games which is scheduled to start from 27th of July to 12th of August, 2012. This time, some stadiums are modified from their pre-structures or yet to be done, some are built only for the 2012 Olympics. The venues can be broadly divided into 3 zones – the River zone, the Central Zone and the Olympic Zone.

Wembley Arena Venue: London had been under immense pressure to decide where to house some Olympic events.Building a temporary venue near the Olympic Park would be extremely expensive. Wembley Arena has a long history of hosting badminton events in the past and so, The London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG), the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and the Badminton World Federation (BWF) have rubber-stamped on the matter that Wembley Arena in north London will be the venue for rhythmic gymnastics and badminton in 2012. Some have objected in this as the participants have to suffer a 90-minutes journey from the athlete’s village in Stratford. But the higher authorities have succumbed since the organizers are offering hotel rooms within walking distance of Wembley to avoid travelling to east London. The Badminton World Championships will be held here in August 2011, acting as a test event for the 2012 Games.

Transport Links: The stadium will have links to Wembley Park Station (London Underground) via Olympic Way and also Wembley Central Station via the White Horse Bridge. Wembley can be reached by public transport such as tube lines and by bus. Around six miles from the city centre and situated beside theWembley Stadium, it will accommodate easily 6,000 spectators.

Cost: Shifting the early rounds to an existing venue such as Wembley Arena could save about £90 million. So the venue was also economically viable. To overcome financial problems over the new stadium, the parties involved signed on a pact that provision for a building cost of around £352 million, with total project costs of £757 million, would be provided. Under such an arrangement, the client is protected from exposure to budget over-runs or delays in construction. A National Lottery fund investment of £120 million and financial backing of £426 million for the project was secured through West Deutsche Landesbank of Germany. Ken Livingston and Brent Council secured £21 million in funding for the project and a further £17.2 million from WNSL for improving the infrastructure of the area around the stadium.

After the Olympics: The Arena will revert to being an excellent concert venue as it is used for this purpose only before the Games.

The 2012 Summer Olympic Games or the Games of the XXX Olympiad will take place in London, United Kingdom from the 27th of July to the 12th of August 2012. London is the first city to Host the Olympic Games three times. Previously it had done so in the year 1908 and 1948. During this 17 days, London would host 26 different types of sports in 34 astonishing venues spread across the city with thousands of participants and Athletes representing different nations of the world. Some of the existing venues will be used for the Games and some would be built newly for the sole purpose of the 2012 Olympics and the Paralympic Games. All the Venues in the city has been broadly divided into three Zones; the Central Zone, the Olympic Zone and the River Zone.

The O2 arena formerly known as the Millennium Dome is an existing Venue placed in the River Zone that is intended to be used in the 2012 Summer Olympics and the Paralympic Games for the Artistic Gymnastics and the Trampolining Events and the Basketball Finals. The venue is officially known as the North Greenwich Arena and it will have a capacity of about 20000 spectators for the Basketball finals and about 16500 for the Gymnastic events during the Games.

Located in the Greenwich Peninsula in South East London, the O2 resembles a huge white umbrella and is supported by 12 yellow towers each of which symbolizes the hours on a clock dial. High strength steel cables hold the columns in place and it also supports the glass fibre roof. The O2 is about 365 meters in diameter and has a circumference of more than a kilometre. It covers a total area of about 650000 square feet. The mammoth structure was designed by Richard Rogers in association with contractors McAlpine/Laing Joint Venture along with structural engineer Buro Happold. The Millennium Dome came to be known as The O2 from 31st May, 2005, after O2 plc purchased the naming rights with a £6 million-per-year deal.

The area is served by North Greenwich tube station, which was opened just before the millennium exhibition, on the Jubilee Line, and by bus routes and cycle routes connecting it across the other parts of the city.

Since the O2 is a permanent venue, it will continue hosting events and sports as before even after the 2012 Summer Olympics and the Paralympic Games.

The 2012 Summer Olympic Games will be held in London, United Kingdom this time from 27th of July to 12th of August, 2012. During these 17 days London is going to host 26 different types of sports at 34 astonishing venues situated at different parts of United Kingdom. Some of the older venues are going to be modified or renovated and some are going to be built for the sole purpose of the 2012 Games. All the venues for the Olympics have been divided into three major zones; the River zone, the Central Zone and the Olympic Zone.

St James Park

St James Park is an existing venue for football with a capacity of 52,000 seats. This stadium had hosted many exiting football matches and got a great response from fans. So, we can imagine this stadium is well prepared for the football events of Olympic 2012. It is situated right at the centre of the city of Newcastle – upon – Tyne in the eastern north of England.

Not only club football, St James’ Park is also used to host International football events and this stadium is going to be used as a football venue for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

Construction and Features

The gallery of this stadium is covered by cantilever roof which is the largest cantilever roofs in Europe. The cantilever roofs are seen from all places of the town.

The plans to make a stadium were made by a football architect Archibald Leitch in between 1920 to 1930. Due to planning disputes, a small roof was achieved on the east stand. The planning difficulties were continued till about 1960. In 1993, the east stand had been demolished and rebuilt. The Gallow gate end was also reconstructed. The drainage system was installed and a new pitch and the flood lights were put up. In 1995, the stadium became capable to take a crowd of over 37,000 spectators.

During expansion in 1998, the executive boxes in the east stand and 175 seats were demolished. The executive boxes were then replaced at the new Milburn/Leazes complex. The capacity of the stadium increased approximately 52,143 after this modification completed in year 2000.

Costs

The modification in year 2000 spent £42 million. In 2008, a plan was made to construct a Super Casino complex over 1000 sq. ft. Club paid £5 million to MGM Mirage for this purpose. The expansion was proposed in 2007 to develop surrounding area of stadium within cost £300million which would be sanctioned by the City Council.

After The Olympic

No changes will be made to the stadium for the games and will continue to be used as it is even after the Olympics.

The 2012 Summer Olympic Games will be held in London, United Kingdom from 27th of July to 12th of August, 2012. London will be the host for this year, exhibiting 26 different types of sports at 34 venues all over the country. Some stadiums are modified or yet to be done, some are built only for the 2012 Olympics. The venues can be broadly categorized into 3 zones – the River zone, the Central Zone and the Olympic Zone.

The Royal Artillery Barracks: The Royal Artillery Barracks at Woolwich in South East London which is called the “home” of the Royal is the largest parade ground of all the existing barracks of United Kingdom. This is now proposed to be used as a venue for the LONDON 2012 Games where mainly Shooting, Paralympics Shooting and Paralympics Archery are decided to be held. Having a remarkable capacity for 7500 spectators, it will be having temporary spectator grandstands. For Pistol and Rifle shooting, four indoor ranges will be constructed. These would be the temporary constructions along with the shot gun ranges which would be built outdoor for the trap and skeet events.

Construction: The construction workforce for the 2012 Olympics in London is to double to 6,000 in the next 12 months keeping in view of the fast construction of the stadium. Despite the dilemma faced by the authority over the decision for the making of the temporary venue at Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich or to use existing facilities at Bisley in Surrey or other sites within an hour’s drive of the Olympic village, for probable ease of the games, the good-old barrack area is opted. A busy schedule will have to involve at least 9000 workers. Till now little work has been done and the rubbish dumping ground is yet to be converted to a place fitted for the games.

Cost: Funded by the National Lottery through the Olympic Lottery Distributor, The Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the Mayor of London and the London Development Agency, the budget has been set to £18 million.

After the Olympics: London 2012 is deciding with the Government and other key parties to make some opportunities for reusing the elements of the venue and sports equipments after the Games. Then this will either be used as a barrack ground or a future sports ground. After the Olympics the shooting hall will be reassembled elsewhere in the UK.

The Olympics are coming back after four years this 2012 in London, United Kingdom. One of the most popular event in Olympic is football. In Olympic 2012, the event football will take place around United Kingdom. There will be 58 matches and 504 athletes will fight for two gold medals on 11 a side football and one gold medal for each 7 a side and 5 a side football. The events of the Olympic Games will be held from 27th July to 12th August, 2012.

Ricoh Arena: Ricoh Arena is a stadium complex in Coventry, England. This complex contains a football stadium with a capacity for about 33000 spectators and an exhibition hall, hotel and leisure club and a casino spread over 6000 square metre. There is also an Arena Park Shopping Centre which is the largest hypermarket in United Kingdom.

Construction and Features: The idea of making this complex was generated by the chairman of the club, Bryan Richardson in 1997. The plan was to complete the stadium within the session of 2000-2001. This job was given to the architect company The Miller Partnership.

The original plan for the Arena was to construct a 45,000 seat stadium which will feature a retractable roof. There would also be a pitch which could slide out as a hard floor at the time of concert.

This arena has been opened for public in 2005 with a super luxury arrangement. Beside the playground, the Jaguar hall is also important conference hall. The Jaguar hall of this arena is a column free exhibition hall which features fully air conditioned atmosphere. It can be divided in two units of 2000 sq/m and 4000sq/m.

This stadium is the first cashless stadium in United Kingdom. The customers’ uses pre paid smart cards in the bars and shopping malls.

The main playground is in dimension, 105 metre long and 68 metre wide and the surface is full of grass.

Cost: The total construction cost of this project was near about £56million.

Sports and Events : This ground is a football ground with super luxury arrangements. The first event hosted here is Coventry City FC’s home games in session 2005-2006. In September 23, 2005 this arena held a concert of Bryan Adams.

After the Olympic: This arena complex is a well-planned complex and beside sports hotels, casino, marketing complexes are here to entertain people. So, after the Olympic games, there will no change be done and it is left as it is.

The Olympics are perhaps the greatest sporting event in the world of sports. It is held every fourth year and several nations and thousands of athletes from all over the world take part in the games. The 2012 Summer Olympics is scheduled to be held in London, United Kingdom from the 27th of July to the 12th of August 2012. It is officially known as the Games of the XXX Olympiad. 26 different types of sports would be held during these days at 34 astonishing venues, some of which have been especially constructed for the 2012 Olympic Games. Parallel to this the 2012 Summer Paralympic Games will also be held at London between 29th of August till the 9th of September 2012.

Some of the venues have been newly constructed for the sole purpose of the 2012 Olympics and the rest, some have been reconstructed or modified. All the venues for the Olympics have been divided into three zones; the River zone, the Central Zone and the Olympic Zone. The Olympic Zone will house several stadiums and sports centres and will also house the Olympic Village. The Olympic Village has been mainly built to provide residential facilities to the sports persons, athletes, coaches and sports delegates who will be attending the games. After the Olympics, the village will become a district of the Stratford Citydevelopment, a multi-billion pound development project on the former railway goods yard to the east of the Olympic Park.

The Olympic Village has been designed to accommodate 17,320 beds and 16 meter square of floor space has been provided to each athlete. The Olympic village will house 3300 apartments. Just by these datas it can be well imagined about the environment and plush facilities in the village. Each apartment within the village will have a television set, internet facilities and a private courtyard attached to each. The dining hall of the Olympic village is so large that it can well accommodate about 5500 athletes at a time. The Olympic village is the single largest project in the 2012 scheme. Due to certain difficulties to obtain land for the purpose and raise funds, the scale of the village had to be reduced by almost 25 %. But still, it would be really be a wonder of the year 2012 and we all are eagerly awaiting to have a look at the Olympic Village.

The 2012 Summer Olympic Games which is officially known as the Games of the XXX Olympiad will be held at London, United Kingdom from the 27th of July to the 12th of August 2012. It would be the third time that London is going to host the Olympic Games having previously done in 1908 and 1948. It was declared the host city on July 6th 2005 by the IOC at the 117th IOC session that was held in Singapore, where London defeated the other places. During this period of 17 days London would be hosting 26 different types types at 34 astonishing venues. Some of the existing venues have been modified and some new venues have been solely constructed for the 2012 Summer Olympics. All the venues for the Olympics have been divided into three zones; the River zone, the Central Zone and the Olympic Zone.

Location and Design: The London Olympic Stadium which is located south of the Olympic Park will hold the major centre of attraction during the games. It is situated on an island site which is surrounded by water on three ways. Five bridges link the site to the surrounding area through which the people can reach the venue. The exact location of the stadium is at Marshgate Lane in the lower sea valley. After Wembley Stadium and Twickenham Stadium it is temporarily the third largest stadium in Britain. It has a capacity of approximately 80000 spectators with 25000 permanent seats in the lower tier and 55000 seats built temporarily in the upper tier. The build of the stadium is such that the upper tier can be easily dismantled after the games.

Features: The Track and Field Arena have been excavated out of the soft clay that was found on the site. The natural slope of the land has further facilitated the design of the Olympic Stadium. The 80m warm up track and changing areas and medical facilities have been built in a semi basement position at the lower end of the place. Refreshments and merchandise outlets have been decided to be placed outside the stadium rather than inside to prevent chances of fire and other hazards. The toilet areas inside the arena known as pods have been designed from recycled shipping containers which have further reduced the unnecessary plumbing costs since they are self contained with water and sewage management. Two thirds of the stadium will be covered by cable supported roofs made from light polymer membranes which would also reduce the chance of winds and facilitate in the sprint and jump games.

After the Games : After the Olympics the venue will be scaled back 25000 seats as before and will serve as a venue for athletics and other sports and cultural and community needs.

During this period of 17 days London would be hosting 26 different types at 34 astonishing venues. Some of the existing venues have been modified for the Games and some new venues have been solely constructed for the 2012 Summer Olympics. All the venues for the Olympics have been divided into three major zones; the River zone, the Central Zone and the Olympic Zone.

The Olympic Hockey Centre Venue:

The Olympic Hockey Centre will be newly constructed for the purpose of the 2012 games in the Olympic zone. It will be built at the Olympic park, at Stratford situated in East London, United Kingdom. It will consist of two venues of capacities 15000 and 5000 respectively. The Olympic centre has been designed for use in Hockey, Paralympic Five a side Football and Paralympic Seven a side Football. There will be two separate pitches with separate seating provisions in the Olympic Hockey Centre. The main pitch will be having a capacity for 1500 spectators and the other will be having a capacity for 500 spectators. The budget for the project has been estimated to about £19 million and is scheduled to be completed within 2011. The Hockey centre has been designed strategically keeping in mind, the geometry of the ground and to the maximum advantage of both the athletes and the spectators. Steel sections have been used where ever possible to reduce the weight and hence increase the efficiency of the design.

After the Games:

After the 2012 Olympic Games the Hockey Centre will be moved to the north of the Olympic Park, and together with some of the other facilities in the area of Eton Manor. It will then be having 5,000 permanent seats which can be increased to over 10000 for major events like the Olympics.
